The Arab Business forum for Information and Communication Technology ABFICT was established when representatives of more than eighty leading companies in the fields of communications & information technology met in Cairo on the 14 th of January 2002 .

All participants shared a strong belief in the positive impact of communications & information technology on the Arab World's development and economy.  They highlighted decisions of the Arab League Summit held in Amman , Jordan in March 2001 stressing the importance of enhancing the capabilities of the Arab World in the field of communications and information technology. The establishment of ABFICT was later endorsed by the Arab League Summit held in Beirut , Lebanon in March 2002.

ABFICT Executive Committee consists of eight members other than the two cochairmen representing Egypt , Kuwait , Palestine , United Arab Emirates , Oman , Lebanon , Syria and Jordan .  Number of Executive committee members will be increased to a maximum of twelve members representing different Arab States including Work Group Leaders.
